How OweMeter handles your data and keeps your account secure.

Overview

OweMeter helps groups track shared expenses and balances. We collect only what’s needed to provide the service and improve reliability. We do not sell your personal information.

What We Store

  • Account profile info (name, email, avatar) used to identify you in groups.
  • Group data (memberships, roles, settings).
  • Financial records you add (expenses, payers, splits, settlements, reminders).
  • Notification preferences (email toggles) and activity timestamps.

How Data Is Shared

  • Within a group, members can see expenses and settlements necessary to understand balances.
  • Shared reports are accessible via a tokenized link and can expire. Anyone with the link can view it until it expires or is revoked.

Authentication & Account Security

  • Authentication is handled by Clerk. Passwords are not stored by OweMeter.
  • Sessions are protected using secure cookies and modern browser security controls.
  • Use a strong password and enable additional security measures in your identity provider (if available).

Emails & Notifications

If you enable email notifications, OweMeter may send messages related to group activity, settlements, and payment reminders. You can change these preferences at any time in Settings.

Security Practices

  • Encryption in transit (HTTPS) for all app traffic.
  • Principle of least privilege for services and database access.
  • Audit-friendly activity logging for key group events.
  • Backups and monitoring to protect availability and integrity.

Data Retention & Deletion

Some records may be retained for audit/history (for example, soft-deleted group data that affects balances). If you want your account data deleted, contact support.
